TEACHER SUBJECT SPECIALISM TRAINING IN MATHS
JANUARY TO JUNE 2017

BISHOP LUFFA TEACHING SCHOOL (BLUE FLAG ALLIANCE)

Following our highly successful training programme for non-specialist teachers over the last three years Bishop Luffa School is once again offering free, fully funded Subject Specialism Training in Maths running from January to June 2017.
Our training programme is delivered by experienced Maths specialist lead teachers who specialise in teaching through problem solving.

Purpose of teacher subject specialism training:

• To improve the maths subject knowledge of non-specialist teachers by offering school-led teacher subject specialism training (TSST) opportunities. This includes non-specialist teachers who could potentially teach maths in addition to their main subject and teachers who want to retrain as maths or teachers;

• To provide greater support to teachers wishing to return to the profession through access to subject specialism training courses.

Three different options to ensure the course is right for you:

• GCSE Higher Tier Maths.
Suitable for teachers who have taught maths at KS3 and want to expand their skill set to enable them to teach new GCSE at the higher level.
• Core Maths with Statistics.
Suitable for schools who are contemplating teaching Core Maths or additional Statistics
• KS2/3 Maths Transition.
Suitable for Year 5 and 6 teachers who want to broaden their skills to match the demands of the new curriculum. It is intended to support transition from primary school to secondary school by ensuring a common approach to key topics

Structure of the courses:

• Up to 10 two-hour face-to-face sessions led by a maths specialist reinforced by extensive online support from CIMT;
• An emphasis on both content and the pedagogy needed to teach each topic successfully;
• An emphasis on teaching through problem-solving and whole-class interactive teaching;
• Great resources and lesson ideas;
• Gap tasks;
• Online training;
• Certification for subject knowledge with the award of “Certificate in Mastery of Mathematics” at three levels: distinction, merit and pass from Plymouth University.
